Initialize Your KRYOS

Follow these steps to securely set up your cold storage wallet and protect your private keys.

Critical Security Notice

Never share your recovery phrase with anyone. KRYOS support will NEVER ask for your recovery phrase. Store it in a secure physical location away from digital devices. Your recovery phrase is the ONLY way to restore access to your keys if your device is lost or damaged.

Setup Process

Complete initialization in approximately 15 minutes

Unbox and Verify

What you'll need:

  • KRYOS device (factory sealed)
  • USB-C cable (included)
  • Recovery phrase backup card (included)
  • Pen for writing recovery phrase

✓ Verify NFC authentication sticker
✓ Ensure device has no visible damage

Power On and Language Selection

~1 min

Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds. The OLED display will show the KRYOS logo followed by language selection.

SELECT LANGUAGE > English Español

Note: Use the navigation buttons to select your preferred language.

Create PIN Code

~2 min

Set up a 6-8 digit PIN to protect device access. This PIN will be required every time you use KRYOS.

PIN Security Best Practices:

  • Avoid obvious patterns (123456, birth dates)
  • Use a unique PIN not used elsewhere
  • Don't share your PIN with anyone
  • Device will wipe after 10 failed attempts

Generate Recovery Phrase

~5 min

KRYOS will generate a 24-word recovery phrase using hardware random number generation. This phrase is the ONLY backup of your private keys.

🚨 CRITICAL

Write down ALL 24 words in order on the provided backup card. Store it in a secure physical location (safe, vault). NEVER store it digitally or take photos.

✓ Write words 1-12 on front of card
✓ Write words 13-24 on back of card
✓ Verify all words are correctly written
✓ Store card in secure location

Verify Recovery Phrase

~3 min

KRYOS will ask you to verify specific words from your recovery phrase to ensure you've written them correctly.

VERIFICATION Enter word #7:

Note: You'll be asked to confirm 3 random words from your phrase. If incorrect, you'll need to start over.

Download the KRYOS companion app (iOS/Android) to manage your accounts. The app NEVER stores your private keys.

Add Blockchain Accounts

~2 min

Use the companion app to add blockchain accounts. Each account will generate a unique address derived from your private key.

✅ Setup complete! Your private keys are now securely stored offline in your KRYOS device.

Quick Setup Questions

What if I lose my recovery phrase?

Your funds cannot be recovered without the recovery phrase. There is no "password reset" for blockchain. Keep your backup card in a secure location.

Can I use KRYOS without the app?

The companion app is required to view balances and create transactions, but your private keys remain on the KRYOS device at all times.

How often should I charge KRYOS?

With typical usage (2-3 transactions per day), charge every 25-30 days. Battery indicator shows remaining power.

What happens if I enter wrong PIN?

After 3 failed attempts, device adds time delays. After 10 failed attempts, device completely wipes for security.
